Buy the truth, and sell it not; also wisdom, and instruction, and understanding.
20 Wisdom crieth without; she uttereth her voice in the streets:
21 She crieth in the chief place of concourse, in the openings of the gates: in the city she uttereth her words, saying,
22 How long, ye simple ones, will ye love simplicity? and the scorners delight in their scorning, and fools hate knowledge?
23 Turn you at my reproof: behold, I will pour out my spirit unto you, I will make known my words unto you.
24 Because I have called, and ye refused; I have stretched out my hand, and no man regarded;
25 But ye have set at nought all my counsel, and would none of my reproof:
26 I also will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when your fear cometh;
27 When your fear cometh as desolation, and your destruction cometh as a whirlwind; when distress and anguish cometh upon you.
28 Then shall they call upon me, but I will not answer; they shall seek me early, but they shall not find me:
29 For that they hated knowledge, and did not choose the fear of the LORD:
30 They would none of my counsel: they despised all my reproof.
31 Therefore shall they eat of the fruit of their own way, and be filled with their own devices.
32 For the turning away of the simple shall slay them, and the prosperity of fools shall destroy them.
33 But whoso hearkeneth unto me shall dwell safely, and shall be quiet from fear of evil.
My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children.
For the priest’s lips should keep knowledge, and they should seek the law at his mouth: for he is the messenger of the LORD of hosts.
The heart of the prudent getteth knowledge; and the ear of the wise seeketh knowledge.
The heart of him that hath understanding seeketh knowledge: but the mouth of fools feedeth on foolishness.
Apply thine heart unto instruction, and thine ears to the words of knowledge.
2 Peter 3:18
But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.
1 Timothy 2:4
Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.
2 Timothy 3
13 But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived.
14 But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them;
15 And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.
16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
17 That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.
For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.
1 Corinthians 12:8
For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit…
Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ: That we henceforth be no more children, TOSSED TO and FRO, and carried about with EVERY WIND of DOCTRINE, by the sleight of men, and CUNNING craftiness, whereby they LIE in wait to deceive. (Emphasis mine).
But the wise answered, saying, Not so; lest there be not enough for us and you: but go ye rather to them that sell, and buy for yourselves.
I have noticed on more than one occasion, teachers and Christians saying knowledge does not matter, so just excel in other things, but don’t take the Bible that seriously, etc, etc. They know Jesus is Lord, and that’s all they will ever want to know or that is all they think is important to know. They twist 1 Corinthians 8:1 and say to others that knowledge has passed away and is no longer needed today. Of course, this is a horrible twisting of the verse. We should encourage each other to search the scriptures and acquire knowledge. We should grow in our knowledge. What would Jesus say to people who discourage Christians from asking God for wisdom and knowledge?
Of course, it is God who gives wisdom and knowledge. We need not be ‘puffed up’ with our knowledge. We should of course excel in love and humility. But, that does not mean we are to check our brains at the door, be lazy or simple and forsake knowledge of the scriptures. We are to grow and to read the Bible. That is how we grow and are sanctified. God gets the glory for knowledge and wisdom, for every good thing comes from Him. Seek wisdom and knowledge in God’s Word, the Bible.
Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.
